Much to the chagrin of 70s purists, hip-hop is anything but a ghettoized art form. Some might see it as institutional control over this initially underground and libertarian process. But above all, it was a reflection of life itself. The kind that abolishes boundaries, both social and artistic.
A stroke of genius: surrounding themselves with geniuses, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven accompanied them on this anachronistic journey. Dressed in white, masked like Pierrots from a lunar suburb, they perfectly blended classical and contemporary styles. These b-boys performed a series of physical feats, defying the laws of balance, through set moves like spins and ninetynines. But this virtuosity was far from gratuitous. It was part of a truly synchronized approach to movement, highlighting emotions punctuated by a sophisticated and contemporary dramatic structure.
